Rowen froze. It was not so much the events around him that had him so stunned, but what they had triggered. Deep within himself he felt something stirring, growing in strength until he could feel the writhing within his soul. Not again, he thought. It had been years since he had been through this, but he remebered it as if it had been minutes. He moved his hands up from his sides, attempting to stop the monster within him awakening, but he already knew he was too late. Seconds after he had started his spell, his hands froze. He felt the coldness spreading slowly through his body, starting at the extremities of his limbs and working it's way into him. Within moments he was completely frozen. Even as he heard some strange voice outside growling something terribly menacing, even as he saw the ghostly eyes appearing besides him, it did not matter. He had more pressing matters to deal with.
His whole body was now paralyzed in position. He could barely even keep his heart moving. And then it started. A misty haze covered his body in a moment. In the next, he could feel his body begin to move again, but it was not him that was willing it to move. As his eyes rolled to the left, he stared through them, as if from the bars of a cage, at some creature moving towards him. Poor beast. It didn't realise what was awakening before it's eyes.
Rowen stared helplessly as his head moved down, directing his eyes to his hands which had already started the first dire incantation. Although trapped in his own body staring helplessly at the world outside, Rowen couldn't help but marvel at how the world outside seemed to slow to a crawl, the creature to his left floating through the air as if in a dream, yet his hands were moving almost faster than he could follow.
A yellow globe formed in these familiar hands, increasing in size at unbelievable speed. The world became distorted, as if viewed through tinted glass, and his head moved up to witness the shock on the faces of those around him as they saw what was happening. Rowen managed to see Shendron gasp as the haze encased his arm, rendering it immobile. The gasp turned to horror as the unknown engulfed Shendron, stopping him in his tracks. On the other side of the roof, Issura had also been layered in the yellow light, and she too was fighting futilely.
The entire process was over in a second, everyone and everything in the room brought to a standstill. Stage one of the horrific process.
But then something happened that almost made Rowen's possessor gasp. The three most noticeable creatures in the room, besides himself, were beginning to move again. Slowly, but nevertheless noticeably. Rowen didn't know whether he should smile at the defiance they showed to his captor, or scream out what would probably happen next. Either way, it made no difference. He was a captive inside his own body. All he could do was watch and see how events unfolded.
His body grinned.
