I looked at the Wolf...and then at the Wizard. I had been around a long time and had never had a partnership like this...It was definitely going to kill me. If it wasnt going to be monsters, it would be one of them...and if it wasnt one of them...they would probably drive me to kill myself...

Rowen began searching his pockets in earnest.

"Well, oh mighty wizard, what now?" The sarcasm dripped from Shendrons mouth.
The wizard shot him a look before revealing a sparkling blue crystal from one of his many many hidden pockets. It dangled from a silver chain.

"I have not seen one of those in a good few hundred years." I said.
Rowen focused on the jewel, "I'm amazed you've seen one at all, they are very rare. I think 3 exist in this world."
"You will be surprised how much of the world you can see when all you have is time."

Rowen began mumbling some kind of incantation. The crystal began to sway back and forth, it swirled and then suddenly stood still facing a very ugly, grey, brick wall.

"Woohoo!" Yelled Shendron in fake enthusiasm. "Onwards!"
I sighed. This day could not get any worse.

Physical form was both a blessing and a curse. It allowed much more freedom of action that the any other realm would ever give, and combining it with one of these other realms could lend tremendous power to the user, as wizards had long ago found out. However, it also tricked the mind into a false sense of achievement. The physical realm was so real, that an ending in it seemed final. If only life were that simple.

Rowen knew that they had achieved a lot in "killing" the demons. He also knew though that the fight was far from over. He let it slip for now though; Shendron and Isurra were too contented in their victory to be broken by news like that, at least for the time being. And they had both been so good to him, he would hate to see their faces at such news. But in time, he knew, they would find out, one way or the other.

Isurra and Shendron seemed to have formed a new type of unspoken bond. Their behaviour towards each other was as it had always been, save their body language; this spoke of another reality in their perceptions of one another. Rowen couldn't quite decide how thier relationship had changed, but he decided to let it play itself out. In the meantime, he kept himself busy with preparations for the next onslaught.

"I believe it's about time we search for that document in earnest." Shendron was clearly frustrated at their lack of progress on their mission.

"Very well. Let us use the wizard to help us unearth its location." Isurra's idea was sensible, but her phrasing of the sentence seemed to point to a newfound distrust of Rowen.

"The wizard?!" Shendron was obviously not sharing the sentiment.

Rowen sighed. Now what?

The air froze and the film which hung around Isurra, Shendron and Krisda. Tiny cracks appeared in the solid air, white light filtering through the tiny partings, when the air suddenly burst with fragments of solid air flying toward the three, each a demon in their own right. The glassy air vapourised before hitting them and the bright incandecent light flooded into the space around them, slowly receding to the source. Rowen stood still for a while, still glowing. He looked at his two companions and then to his soul-bound demon's brother. Blood dripped from Rowen eyes and the thick black blood seared his face, falling to the ground, hissing on the stones at his feet. His neck extended forward and seemed to detach itself. Fangs pused his teeth out with great violence. His own teeth shot out of his mouth, with bits of bloody gums still attached. His lips retracted, while his eyes grew larger and a film of blood covered them, yet one could sense that he saw through it. His back burst open and a terrible roar crawled out of his throat as wings sliced open his back and pieces of human flesh fell on Isurra's face.

Shendron chanted and his blade came alive in his hands, or seemed to. White flames shot out toward Merrit and Krisda. The blade longed to destroy the fathers of the Vampire race, both here together. Such a thig had not happened in centuries. Rowen's transformation was now complete and the creature standing before them was towering. One could tell that Krisda didn't have the flair for show which his brother obviously had by taking on this form.

Olus appeared, "My brothers, it has been too long." she said, without emotion.
Before she could continue, Isurra had moved at a speed she hadn't used in a long time, because it ripped her muscles and she would take days to recover. She had to take the chance though. She noticed the diverted attention when Olus entered. Without hesitation, she ripped the Rune Blade from Shendron's hand. He only saw it was gone when she was half-way to her target. The flames started consuming her, but her task would be complete before the blade would have that satisfaction. Krisda's headless body fell to the ground, while the head was consumed by the flames. Isurra wanted to throw the weapon away, but it puled her toward the other demons. She couldn't let go, the blade had fused her skin to itself. She flew across the room, almost unwilling, but heeding the call of the blade. The fires no longer burned her, knowing her to be an instrument of doom for the demons. Before anybody could react, it was all over. Olus was dead, her body headless and Merrit was dying slowly, a great wound across his midriff. His intestines were spilling out of the hole. His body shrank, but he was dead before he could change back into Rowen. The body returned to its original size and Rowen was still alive. The thing which had leeched at Rowen had protect him and now he lay unconscious on the floor, with a wound only in his stomach. Still serious, but not fatal if tended to. Isurra fell to the floor. Shendron was at her side in an instant. He was in his human form again. He lay her head down on his leg and inspected the burn wounds. The rune blade had been kind and the burns were only second degree burns and none of the Permanent Fire of the blade had touched her. They would both heal.

Shendron had been tending to them for four and a half day, when Isurra came to. She said nothing, but disappeared to feed. Only when she came back did she thanks Shendron. Rowen took a furhter eight days to recover enough to move around, but the wounds had been dressed well and he was strong.

"We shall leave this castle the day after tomorrow then." Rowen's voice echoed what had been agreed to.
"Yes, if we do not find the Harpy's scroll within that time, we will have no more business here." Shendron said.
"I also agree fully. There may be fouler things here than what we have already seen, even though that seems impossible." Isurra said.

The three stood up, a company again, and set off.

I looked at the demon, my eyes growing heavy. This wasn't a feeling of tiredness, no, this was something else. Like a drug filling my lungs and intoxicating me. The demon seemed to speak to us, but other words filled my mind.

"Issura."

"..."

"Issura."

"Yes?"

"Kill me."

"What?"

"Listen carefully."

"Yes."

"Kill me."

"..."

"Please."

"...why?"

"I cannot bare this world any longer... I have been here longer than all you're ages put together. End it...please. I have never asked so pitifully...rather I am begging."

"...what...now?"

"The opportune time will present itself."

"..."

"Thank you."

Rowen realised that he was quite invisible to Shendron and Issura in this white void. He also realised, unfortunately, that there didn't seem to be anyway he could communicate with them. This could be troublesome...

And then he appeared. His tormentor's brother, Krisda, had arrived on the scene. The werewolf and vampire didn't seem to pleased to see him. At least that was a good sign. But it seemed he wasn't going to be too involved in their introductions, as the third part of the unholy threesome had appeared. Krisda and Merrit's sister, Olus, had decided to join the fray.

"Rowen, I must talk with you urgently!"

Those evil eyes again. He had known when he had seen them earlier that something was on it's way...

"Damn it, can you three not just disappear?"

"Now is not the time for jokes Rowen," said Olus. Her expression was grave. As always. But although he had seen those eyes appearing around him for decades, they still gave off the same chilling feeling.

"Your brother's..." start Rowen.

"Yes, that is why I have come. Krisda is preparing to confront Merrit; hence the sudden spark of life you may have noticed."

Rowen couldn't believe his ears. Spark of life?? That was no mere spark of life...

"Yes, I know that may be an understatement, but there is worse to come, trust me." Olus' voice was somewhere between utter seriousness and frightening excitement.
"I cannot stay in this state for long, so I will explain this to you quickly. We have to interfere somehow with their plans of attack, or we may have a repeat of the year 227. I have discovered something which will help us in this task, and the process may even rid you of Merrit's claim on your magic. No doubt you would like that?"

As much as Rowen knew what a relief it would be to get rid of his curse at last, he knew Olus must have something to gain out of this pact. But he would worry about that later.

"How can I help?"

"You need to steal the Harpy's document."

She would feed indeed! For the creature that materialised before them was kin yet unfamiliar to the Ancient Vampire. It was a demon who was one of the fathers of the vampire race. Shendron's sword glowed amber and the runes jetted little sparks which flew toward the demon, but the cold air extinguished them before the could fall on him. The sword seemed to pull Shendron forward, but he remained standing still. The demon looked at them, flames flickered from his eyes and flickered in the dark.

He spoke; "I will not fight you. I may die, or you may die, but I believe that you must agree that odds are in my favour. It would do you well, Lycan, to put up your sword."

Shendron, agreeing to the truth of the demon's words lowered his sword, but did not sheath it. The sword suddenly shone more brighly and a spray of flame spewed from its runes to the demon, burning him and searing flesh.

The demon laughed as he said; "I have not been burned by the flames of Urr's descendants in millenia!" As he spoke the wounds healed. "I would not like to feel the bite of your sword against my flesh, because the wound would burn without healing, until I die, or kill a Lycan and take his bloodied flesh as a poultice for the wound. "I am here to talk to both of you of your mission and of the fool-hardy decision your wizard friend has made. This castle is a living organism, as I am sure you have noticed, and as any living thing, it requires balance. The three of you and your very presence has upset this delicate balance. We must talk on the demon which has possessed your companion; my brother, who is bound to the wizard by blood pact to do his bidding. Yet, my brother gets his own out of the deal, but we will not talk of this now. This castle will rebel at my brother's presence and unless we find a way to stop both him and the wizard, they will both be utterly destroyed! The castle will move against them. The denizens of its halls will answer its call as one and we will have almost no time for you to complete your mission. Do not ask me how I know all this, help me to stop the future."

"Bloody, bloody werewolves, bloody wizards...demons...and now this?" I muttered to myself.

The light reached out, like claws, grabbing at me. I tried to avoid it but once it touched me, I felt lifeless. My energy seemed to be seeping away. My legs felt weak, my arms fell to my sides, and my eyes grew heavy...my mind became murky, filled with thoughts of...sleep.

I opened my eyes. All that greeted me was a white void. Absolute emptyness filled with an infinite light. I looked around and found myself face to face with Shendron. We both jumped back, hissing and growling. We were both a little jumpy.

"What happened?" I said, trying to ease the tention.
"How must I know?" Shendron growled.
"You seem to act like you know everything." I hissed back.
The vicious look he gave me, greatly reassured me. At least he was his old self and wasnt interested in fighting me right now. There were more pressing matters.

"This must be Rowens doing." He said looking around. "What is he thinking?"

A hissing sound began to fill the air. I frowned. The world began to shake. I turned to see Shendrons sword come to life.
"Thats a very old sword." I said. The runes looked vaguely familiar.
"I think something else has joined us in this void." Shendron said, getting into a fighting stance.
"Oh, good." I smiled. "Now I can feed."
