The city was in the silence that you found would settle just before a raging lightning storm, or a before the first attacking charge in a war. It was eerie and it would have been complete, had it not been for the anguished cries of a mother giving birth. The child was the son of Zel-urr, the protector of the Old Lore, and he was not there to see the birth, he had gone to witness an execution, a burning, of sorts. The mid-wife had promised a boy and Zel-urr would never miss the birth of his first child, let alone of his first boy! The Vampire Z'dir had terrorized the village and she had been taken to be burnt alive, by the sun's rays, as soon as they appeared over the mountains which cast their gloomy shadows over the city of Shaktu. She had viciously murdered the Lady Shakti and collected blood from hundreds of peasants to bathe in - at least that's what the common peasants were telling, but Zel-urr knew they were rumour mongering and that she had fed, both for sport and hunger, but only fed. Her greatest mistake was the killing of the Lady Shakti though. If it had not been for that, there would not have been a hunting party, hunting her at day. She had shown no remorse at her trial. She was condemned to this death, and even though Zel-urr had no part in any of it, he had an old hatred for her kind, a hatred which the woman in labour knew all too well, and she would have been there beside her husband, but the contractions had started early that night, and he went alone, knowing he would be back for the birth itself. It was almost dawn and the sky was turning grey. There was a thud on the roof and a weird panic took a hold of Sienna-urr, and she suddenly felt the need to get away: Her baby was in danger, she just knew it! Her legs were lame though and she could not move them. Sienna-urr screamed at the mid wife to help her get away, but she insisted that Sienna-urr lay still. She left the room to go and make a potion to calm her Sienna-urr down.

The room started filling with smoke and Sienna-urr started coughing, screaming for the mid-wife to come and help. The mid wife ran in and found the room in flames, rapidly spreading to the rest of the house. She dashed toward her mistress, but a beam broke loose and snapped her neck, her body fell to the floor, dead. Sienna-urr dragged herself along, limp legs trailing behind. She was faint from the smoke and the world span around her, to a raging maelstrom of fire and smoke and then blackness, she was consumed by the flames and she died without another scream.

Minutes later Zel-urr ran through the burning ruins of his home and found the body of his wife, still burning, belly still big, but burnt open to reveal the child she had been carrying for nine months. Zel-urr came closer and felt lost and powerless over this devastation and the tears wrenched themselves from his eyes, falling to the ground. "Why could I not have been here sooner?" He was hoarse with emotion and the sound of crying seemed to fill his head. He was deaf to the world and only heard heart-rending sobs, until he realized that he was not crying alone. He saw the misty figure of his babe lying in his mother's burnt body and saw its legs move, saw it turn its head slightly and then heard it cry into the morning air, with life. Zel-urr knew what had happened and was overjoyed that his son had the heritage he had. Zel-urr picked up the infant and wrapped him in his own cloak, cutting the umbilical, and softly wiping him clean. "My son, you are not only as we are, you are also of fire." This was all Zel-urr said, before naming his son, to reflect his bond to the two worlds: Shendron-urr; he Child of Fire and the Child of Zel-urr, the oldest Lycan.
