It had been a very, VERY long time since I had been on a hunt with a coven. Although I had to slow down to allow for the young ones to catch up, the sheer excitement and anticipation was wonderful! I only realized then how much I had missed vampiric comaraderie. We moved along the walls at tremendous speeds, through several passages and doorways.
Tanu suddenly stopped. He signaled to the other vampires. They jumped around, getting into different positions along the wall.
"Wha...?" Tanu placed his hand over my mouth.
-A trap.- He said telepathically. I had been alone for so long, it was unusual to use this gift that was present in almost all vampires. I had to concentrate intensely to use it again, but when I got it going, my mind felt so refreshed!
-A trap? In a castle?- I said.
-This is no ordinary castle.-
I watched the other vampires. The youngest took a dagger and cut a strip of his skin off his arm. He then took the skin and threw it in the area where the trap was supposed to be. In an instant blinding white light lit up the hall. I hissed as I covered my eyes from the glare.
-It is safe now.- Tanu said taking my arm away from my face. We slipped past the trap and once again resumed our hunt.
-What was that all about?-I said, frowning.
-This castle is shared by many species, angels and demons. Each species keeps to their own territory. The boundaries are separated by traps, like that one.-
-So...we are in another creatures space?-
-Yes, this is human territory. We only come here to hunt. We must survive. The humans put up those silly traps to deter us. They know the vampiric border is there, hence the light...our greatest enemy. There are other traps we may pass, but they will have no effect on us, as they are intended for someone else.-
-What other creatures are there?-
-Oh, I have lived in this castle for nearly half a millenia and I cannot know all the mysteries of this place. It is not only the creatures you must be aware of...it is the castle itself.-
There was a heaviness in the air. I stopped for a moment...magick...I could sense an immense amount of energy was being used. I caught up with Tanu.
-Why the stop?-He said looking back.
-Need to catch my breath.-
I knew the wizard was close by...now...as much as I wanted to stay with this vampiric horde, the mission was more important...and they reminded me of a past I would rather forget.
"Demons!" The scream came from beneath me. We were in a hallway full of humans! But these weren't just any humans, they were warriors and heroes. They wore armour and carried heavy weaponry.
An arrow whisped past me as I dashed across the wall, I jumped towards the chandelier and drew my sword in an instant, cutting the chandelier from its hold on the ceiling, it fell and killed several of the warriors. I remained on the roof. I saw the other vampires join the fray. At that moment an arrow hit me in the shoulder. I cursed and looked at the perpetrator. A very tall, well built man with dirty blonde hair and bright green eyes. I snarled baring my fangs. He smiled and reached for another arrow. I was by him in a moment, but it wasn't an arrow he held in his hand. It was a small mirror. I frowned as he held it to my face. A young woman stared back. Her blonde hair as dirty as the warriors, with snow white skin and deep, sad lilac eyes. I felt his sword penetrate my chest, but I still stared at the mirror...I had not seen my reflection in almost 3000 years. I felt blood well up in my mouth. The man put the mirror away. I looked at him as he pulled his blade out of me. The blood spilled out of my mouth. Tears welled in my eyes. Vampires tears. Bloody tears. I fell to my knees and the world turned to darkness.
